Jay just became Peakline's Salesforce admin. On day one, he asks: what does an admin actually do all day?
The admin's role
Trailhead calls admins the backbone of every Salesforce org. An admin sets up and looks after Salesforce so it fits how the business works, mostly with clicks, not code. Jason, Sarah and David use Salesforce every day. Jay makes it work for them.
Five core jobs
Trailhead lists five core admin responsibilities:
| Responsibility | What it means |
|---|---|
| User management | Adding people and giving them the right access |
| Security | Making sure people see only what they should |
| Data management | Keeping data clean and useful |
| Analytics | Reports and dashboards that help people decide |
| Product management | Keeping Salesforce improving, release after release |
On top of that, admins automate work. When Jason closes a deal, Salesforce can create the install task for David on its own. That's automation, and you'll build it later in this course.
The road ahead
You'll set up Peakline's company, add users and lock down security, shape the data, build reports, automate work, and set up sales and service. One step at a time, in your own free org.
